A group photo of Joe, Shonagh and me taken after Tilly's x-rays following the nail incident!
Just as we were increasing Tilly's exercise time she managed to have a freak accident and stand on a nail! I had just finished her 40 minute walk in the school and was leading her back to the stable when she suddenly went lame. On very quick and further investigation I discovered she had trodden on a nail. I immediately rang Joe who asked me to send me a photo and then advised me to
mark the nail and pull it out. I had to tell him which way and how far it had gone in. Unfortunately it was in the wrong part of the foot and pointing in the wrong direction so Joe came and joined us for coffee!! I tubbed and poulticed it until he arrived and then he xrayed it to see how far in it had gone and told us to be ready to go to Liverpool with her if it had damaged any internal structures or if she went very lame in the next few hours. Joe took the xrays back to the surgery and later rang to say we had been very lucky and hopefully it had not done any damage. I poulticed for nearly a week and Peter and I jabbed her each day which she was getting fed up off by the end of the antibiotics! Anyway the poultice stayed very clean and touch wood she is now sound and back to being walked out in hand again!!! I now have insurance claims on two of her legs!!!!On a brighter note Maisey has been introduced to the saddle and
really did not care! I lunged her in the indoor and she was more bothered that Peter and Alex were watching and tried to stop for a chat each time she went past! After they had left she worked well and did not seem to bother at all. Perhaps she is saving it all up for when I get on her!!!! This was quite an emotional event as she is still my baby and now she seems like a little grown up!
We have officially been given notice on the yard. I have been told that the landlord has rented my house to someone else when my contract ends in June!!!!!!!! He wants all the horses, mine and all the liveries off the yard. The landlord has been busy turning a field into a lake infront of the indoor school to cover up a water leak that he is unable to fix!!! The outdoor school that took him five years to build is unridable in as the surface is so deep it will cause injuries. Over the last couple of days the wind has been so strong that it has blown a lot of the beach sand surface away and it is now just down to the stones underneath in places! The sand left in the school is turning into drifts!!! It is a very stressful and upsetting time for all of us here but I'm sure it will work out for the best in the long run.
Jack is delighted that we have the use of the quad at Pepper Hill to level the school with. He used to love riding on the quad at the TRC and couldn't wait to get on board again! I showed a lovely girl round last week so hopefully she and her friend will join the others at Pepper Hill shortly. The fields have just been harrowed and rolled and I am now going to get them sprayed as their are quite a lot of docks that have not been zapped for quite a few years!
Now that is a freak accident, a nail in the hoof, looks deep. Sounds like a move is on the cards for you. Do you ever make it to many of the Scottish events. Auchinlek (if that is spelt correctly) is on this weekend over in the west. Sounds like the weather has been amazing but I am sure rain will try to come now.
ReplyDeleteHi, the furthest up I go at the moment is Cumwhinton and that is about 1 1/2 hours for me. It rained pretty hard here last night so I hope the going will be ok up there. :)
