In the horsebox, vets and hacking in body armour!!

This morning Maisey ventured fully into the horsebox for her breakfast.  She was a little worried when we turned her round in it but she had a good look at everything before walking nice and calmly down the ramp.  It was also the first time she had worn travelling boots and after she came out the first time I put the hind ones on too and Peter took her in for a second time.  Kirkby however wasn't quite as willing and he had his breakfast with all four feet on the ramp!  He is getting slowly used to it and he also had some front boots on this week......he thought it was great fun to pull them up to his elbows so they looked like splints!  He also pulled one of the straps off, which is why Maisey is wearing a cheap pair and not my Mark Todd ones!!!!

Unfortunately this week Millie has got Laminitis.  She came in on Thursday and was not happy on her front feet so I gave her some bute and sedalin then bandaged some frog supports on before bedding her down with so much bedding that she had to climb in!  Joe came out on Friday afternoon and confirmed it but she was feeling a lot better by then so she has to have a week of bute and rest and then can have a little school turn out and see how she goes.
Kirkby has been stamping and kicking the stable walls and I have been shampooing him and applying 'itching' creams and although this provides some relief it has not cured the problem.  It irritates him so much that he is trying to bite himself so I asked Joe if he could be injected to help stop it.  We did this on Friday too......blimey!!!!  Kirkby thought we were trying to kill him and proceeded to rear and run round the stable and try to get over the door before we resorted to a twitch which did not have much effect at all!!  Whilst he was having his histrionics, Joe jabbed him in his chest and he never even noticed!
Tilly is going to the vets on Thursday for xrays and nerve blocks.
She is having an hour turn out a day and I have been hacking her around the block every morning in an attempt to try and get her to lose some weight.  She is very well behaved on the whole but she did hump me down the yard on Friday!!  I never thought I would have to wear my body protector to hack out on Tilly!
I feel like all my horses are dropping like flies at the moment!
Mez has had about a month off now and I have decided I am not going to sell her.  The thought of it makes me want to cry!  I am looking forward to moving and being able to work her in the 20 x 60 school on a good quality surface.  The surface in the schools here is appalling and I am so worried about incurring any more injuries!  Her belly is getting bigger too so I lunged her this morning and will gradually bring her back into work now.
Right off to do a bit more packing.........the end of June is getting nearer and nearer!

  1. I really enjoy your blog. We should surely stay connected, as we're both trainers and riders. I recently wrote a book, "Accessing Your Intuition" which you may also enjoy. I'd love to connect on FB and Twitter if you have accounts there also. Wishing you the best!
