Since we have moved to our lovely new home we have been out and about exploring with the boyz. I am able to climb a very rickety stile at the top of the girls field that takes me into a tiny copse. From there we can get in to the fields where much to Stan's delight there are birds and bunnies!!! I would like to point out that he only chases them half heartedly as he knows he would be in deep dodo if he caught one! Peter and I have been picking blackberries and have had three fantastic crumbles (if I say so myself!!) and have bags of them left in the freezer too!! I was overjoyed to find rosehips in the hedges too and have been foraging regularly to build my stock up. The horses love them and they are really good for them. This is a little bit about their wonderful properties supplied by my friend.
ROSEHIPS
Actions: aperiant, astringent
Rosehips Granules are one of the very best sources of natural Iron and Vitamin C. They also contain biotin for optimum hoof health. They are an excellent spring tonic. Useful for scouring, general debility and for helping horses return to health after illness. Will aid in fighting infection. Or use fresh rose hips!!
So all my horses are having fresh rosehips daily at the moment. I will dry some out and feed during the winter.
Get out and get foraging!!!!! Your horses will love it!!
Nothing like working with nature. Sorry to hear this summer has been so wet, especially in Scotland, how have the events gone?
