Well it seems at long last that the wind has died down a little and so riding has commenced again. I thought I would miss my indoor school when I moved but life here is so much better now that I am happy to just go with the flow and hack when it's safe! The field is a bit wet although it does dry out quickly but I have not done any schooling for a long time.......until this morning! I have entered Mez for a BD competition at Myerscough College in less than two weeks time so I thought being as I have hacked her once in the last month that maybe I should attempt some schooling!!! So what to do when you have no school????
Mez pulled a shoe off last week and Barry came and did everyones feet yesterday so today I decided that Mez and I would take a trip to the seaside and use the beach as a big school! I have also painted my lorry and was a bit sorry to put a horse in it this morning as now it has poo splatted up it and no longer looks new and sparkly! I was not too sure how well behaved Mez would be due to not being worked for so long but bless her she was brilliant. She didn't want to get her feet wet at first as she is a diva, but we soon got over that one and walked out over the wet bits until we found a bit where we could do some work.
I did some supplying work in the walk and then when she was relaxed and listening to me I asked for trot. I have forgotten how wonderful she is to ride and she gave me such a lovely feeling, all that power underneath you. We ran through the dressage test and she was great, a little strong in the canter at times....especially towards home but she relaxed and worked well. On the left rein a couple of times she got unbalanced and changed behind but I rode her through it and tried to keep her between hand and leg and as straight as possible and she improved a lot. Her walk to canters are fab and it was so nice to be schooling again....although I won't be saying that in the morning when I am too stiff to get out of bed!!!
So this afternoon I will be cleaning my sandy tack and trying to do some more work on my website.....the logo above is the latest one, I am terrible and keep changing things around all the time!
My heart goes out to Rachael who lost her beautiful boy last night. Oz (above) was her baby and best friend and came for his holidays last December while Rachael went away. He was the best behaved stallion I have met and gave my girls something to talk about for a week! There are no words to describe how she must be feeling at this desperate time but we are all thinking of you Rachael and if there is anything at all I can do you know where we are. So cruel and sad. :(
